𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗗𝗠𝗭 𝗣𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗘𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡  𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 & 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲

춤을 추고 바라만 봐도

DANCE ON, GAZE ON.

 2024년 피스트레인은 벌써 다섯 번째 페스티벌을 개최하게 되었습니다. 여러 해가 지나는 동안 내부에서 도대체 ‘평화’가 무엇이어야 할지 치열하게 고민하고 이야기했으나 정확한 정의를 내리기는 어려웠습니다. 다만 막연하게나마, 피스트레인에게 평화는 정치적 의도를 품은 거대한 담론이 아니라 평범하고도 상투적인 우리 일상에 공기처럼 존재하여 애쓰지 않아도 행복해질 수 있는 상태를 말하는 것 같긴 합니다. 물론 현실은 녹록치 않지요. 맞서야 할 부조리는 늘어나고 인간과 지구의 생존을 위협하는 사건들이 계속 눈에 띕니다. 도저히 문화와 예술의 영역으로는 해결책을 제시할 수 없는 상황이 태반이라 무력해지기도 합니다.

 그러나 분명한 건 우리는 평화의 무게를 결코 가벼이 여기지 않으며, 세상 모두가 평화를 누릴 자격이 있다는 신념입니다. 최대다수의 최대행복이라는 문구를 배우며 자랐지만, 소수 역시 최대치의 행복을 추구할 수 있는 세상이 되기를 바랍니다. 그곳에 도달하기 위해 불편함과 어색함이 따른다고 하더라도요. 1년에 단 이틀 동안이라도 먼 거리를 이동하는 수고와 집과 다른 잠자리를 찾아야 하는 불편함을 무릅쓰고 낯선 이와 서로 마주 보며 춤을 추기에, 말로 설명할 수 없는 평화의 의미를 맛보는 것이니까요.

 음악과 춤이 세상의 문제를 해결할 수는 없지만 세상을 바라보는 시선은 바꿀 수 있습니다. 부디 이곳, 페스티벌에서 함께 춤을 추고 서로를 바라보는 것만으로 세상의 부조리에 맞설 수 있는 힘을 얻어갈 수 있기를 바랍니다.

 In 2024, the DMZ Peace Train Music Festival will be hosting its fifth event. Over the years, we have been discussing and debating internally about what exactly "peace" means, but it has been challenging to come up with a precise definition. However, it seems to us that peace is not a grand discourse with political intentions but rather a state of being that exists like air in our mundane lives, where we can be happy without even trying. In reality, it’s tough. Injustices to confront and events that threaten the survival of humans and the planets are increasing day by day. There are times when culture and art seem powerless to offer solutions.

 But one thing is clear: we do not take the weight of peace lightly, and we strongly believe that peace is for everyone. We've been told that greatest happiness for the greatest number will make the world a better place. Yet we believe that a peaceful world is where minorities aren't left out, even if it means feeling a little awkward and uncomfortable along the way. Take the extra mile to find a place to stay and travel all the way to Cheorwon, just to dance with strangers. You'll experience sense of peace that is beyond language. Even if it's just for two days, it'll last a whole year.

 Music and dance cannot solve the world's problems, but they can change the way we perceive them. We hope that by dancing together at the festival and looking into each other's eyes, we can find the strength to confront the injustices of the world.
